At a negotiation meeting on Wednesday, Organised Labour maintained that they cannot accept anything less than 60% increment. In an interview with a representative of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), he noted that they have changed their initial demand from 60% to 65%. He indicated though that they are going to consult on government’s offer. “As you are aware, we have read the budget and there is an indication that there will be an increase in VAT of 2.5 … so this is fresh information that they have brought to that table. Speaking at the 2022 AGI Awards in Accra, Dr. Bawumia noted that to the contrary, Ghana's gold for oil program will give Ghana the space to accumulate more international reserves as the country will save the $3 billion it spends on oil imports. He added that the use of gold was specifically for oil imports in the face of declining foreign exchange reserves. “Unfortunately some people have misinterpreted this as Ghana being against the use of the US dollar in international transactions.
