Wassa Ateiku 100 people rendered homeless

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE RENDERED HOMELESS AT WASSA ATEIKU IN THE WASSA EAST DISTRICT DUE TO A DOWNPOUR*

Hundreds of residents of Wassa Ateiku in the Wassa East district of western region have been displaced to flooding after a torrential rains which lasted for about eight hours from the morning to the evening yesterday.

As a result, many buildings have either been partially or totally collapsed. Several other valuable properties such as mattresses, bags, mobile phones, televisions, fridges, huge sums of undisclosed amount of monies among other things have also been flooded away.

Many including children are those who have become homeless and stranded.

Study finds dangerous cancer-causing chemicals in meats cooked with burnt car tyres

A joint study by the African Centre of Excellence in Public Health and Toxicological Research (ACEPUTOR), University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has revealed alarming levels of cancer-causing chemicals in meats singed using tyres. Published in the journal Environmental Health Insights, the study found that meats singed with tyres contain high levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), particularly a harmful chemical called Benzo[a]pyrene, which is known to increase the risk of cancer.
