Best Farmer Urges Government to Support Vegetable Farmers

*Best Farmer Urges Government to Support Vegetable Farmers*

Mr. Isaac Agyire, the 2020 Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Best Farmer and CEO of Showbwoy Farmers, has made a passionate plea to the government to provide support to vegetable farmers in Ghana. According to him, the disparity in support between cocoa farmers and vegetable farmers is stark, with cocoa farmers receiving significant assistance while vegetable farmers struggle to access basic inputs.

Agyire highlighted the challenges faced by vegetable farmers, including limited access to pesticides, fertilizers, and other essential resources. This, he said, hampers their productivity and makes it difficult for them to compete with imported vegetables. He emphasized the importance of vegetables in daily life, noting that they are a staple in Ghanaian cuisine and are essential for a healthy diet.

The best farmer also expressed concern about the country's reliance on imported vegetables, which he believes is not only economically unwise but also undermines local farmers. He argued that with proper support, local vegetable farmers could produce enough to meet the country's needs, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.

He finally said the organization, Showbwoy Farmers, has been training young people in agriculture, and he encourages others to venture into farming.

He believes that with the right support, agriculture can be a lucrative and fulfilling career path for Ghana's youth.
